As a quilter, I get very excited about each piece I start, because I can’t wait to see it finished. I love lots of color in my quilts. Every quilt that I stitch tells a story or reflects someone’s life in some way. It gives me great joy to see that a quilt that I made has brought happiness to someone else’s life.

Born in Cambridge, Maryland, Cynthelia L. Cephas developed a love for quilting during her formative years. She often watched her aunt construct intricate works of art by hand, using just scraps of fabric, a needle, and thread. Her interest was ignited when she became a member of the Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild of New Jersey and her hobby developed into a small business, C. C. Quilts. She is best known for made-to-order family picture quilts, which feature transposed photographs stitched onto the fabric. Her work has been displayed at various quilt shows and art galleries in New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia. In 2004, Cynthelia’s work received third place honors among 800 other competitors by the State Quilt Guild of New Jersey. She was also featured in a two-page article in the Courier News (June 2004), which celebrated her artistic talents.
